Woven: Nurturing a Faith Your Kids Doesn’t Have to Heal From is out in the world!

Fun Fact: I wrote huge chunks of Woven at Disneyland. We live about 30 minutes away and have passes, in the spring of 2022 I’d find myself sitting with my laptop at a table in the shade, listening to live music and watching families.

What was plain, when I took the time to observe them, was how much these adults longed for connection with their kids. They wanted to laugh, scream, and dance together, to make memories that would call back warmth.

It’s a shared hope we have for the kids we love. We want to connect with them.

One reason I wrote Woven was that the models I often heard promoted actually worked against connection by telling every family to follow an identical blueprint, like it or not. By telling parents that, despite the immense delight they felt in their children, God feels unhappy with that child because of sin, so you, parent, better fix it, and fast.

There had to be a way to nurture faith and family warmth together, especially considering that research shows that family warmth is the single greatest relational contributor to passing faith along.

I also saw how those models left no space for a parent with questions of their own, who might be reimagining their own faith expressions compared to their younger years or their family of origin.

There had to be a way to nurture faith and normalize that faith changes over time, especially because a time of faith-questioning is a maturing stage in faith formation, not a failure to be feared.

I wrote Woven to help you discern the ways you’ll help your kid meet God, not by following my blueprint, but by weaving your own web. I’m so so grateful for the chance to write it and cannot wait for you to have it.
